Earlier this year, Nethub became the first company in Hong Kong to offer a comprehensive automated ACME SSL certificate service, helping businesses keep pace with steadily shortening certificate validity periods without manual intervention. Today, Nethub is expanding that service with two additions: support for DigiCert ACME alongside the existing Sectigo ACME offering, and the launch of the Nethub Automation Agent, a proprietary automation tool developed in-house.

With this expansion, Nethub continues to provide the most complete automated SSL solution available in Hong Kong, now covering three distinct paths to certificate automation under one provider.

Why this matters

As certificate authorities and major browsers continue to shorten SSL/TLS certificate validity periods, manual certificate management becomes harder to sustain. Every certificate has to be automatically reissued before it expires, and a missed deadline can mean unexpected downtime or browser warnings for visitors. Automation removes that operational burden, but different businesses have different requirements, which is why choice matters as much as automation itself.

What’s new

1. DigiCert ACME support

Clients can now choose to have their certificates automatically issued and reissued through DigiCert, in addition to the existing Sectigo ACME option. This means clients are no longer tied to a single certificate authority. They can select the CA that best fits their compliance requirements, trust preferences, or existing infrastructure, while still benefiting from full ACME automation: domain validation, issuance, and reissuance without manual steps.

2. Nethub Automation Agent

The Nethub Automation Agent is a lightweight tool built by Nethub’s own engineering team and installed directly on the client’s server – free of charge, keeping the overall cost of automation lower for clients. It handles the full certificate lifecycle automatically – requesting, validating, and reissuing certificates before they expire, while giving clients more direct control over how automation is configured on their own infrastructure, compared to a standard ACME client.

Together with the existing ACME options, this gives clients a genuine choice of automation approach: a standards-based ACME client pointed at the certificate authority of their choice, or Nethub’s own agent for a more managed, Nethub-supported experience.

More options, less manual work

The goal behind this expansion is straightforward: give clients more ways to automate SSL certificate management, so they can pick the option that best suits their technical setup and preferences, rather than being limited to one method or one certificate authority.

For clients who prefer a fully hands-off setup, Nethub also offers paid installation and configuration assistance. Nethub’s team can set up and configure the automation on the client’s behalf, for businesses that would rather not handle the initial setup themselves.
